What Level 1 means for your scorecard
Under the B-BBEE Codes of Good Practice, what you spend with each supplier is weighted by that supplier's B-BBEE level when your preferential procurement score is calculated. Level 1 carries the highest weighting: 135%.
In practice, R100 000 spent with a Level 1 supplier counts as R135 000 of recognised procurement spend. The same R100 000 with a Level 4 supplier counts as R100 000, and with a non-compliant supplier it counts for nothing.
